The Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering is one of the founding departments of SNIT and started functioning in 2011. This branch of study, formerly known as Electrical Engineering and is one of the core branches in Engineering. Electrical and Electronics Engineering is a field of engineering that generally deals with the study and application of electricity, electronics and electromagnetism. Its main concern is the science and technology for the generation, transmission, distribution and consumption of electrical energy incorporating the advanced technologies and covers a wide range of fields such as New & Renewable Sources of Energy, Control Systems, Microprocessors, Electronics, Electrical Machines and Signal processing. The curriculum is designed to cover all major aspects of Electrical Engineering, while allowing considerable in-depth study of specific areas chosen by each student. There are curricular add-ons in this programme to support employment opportunities in any of the above areas. Students also receive exposure to other areas of electrical engineering through a choice of electives.
The Electrical & Electronics Engineering department of SNIT aims to produce skillful and competent engineers that aim for great heights. Our vision is to impart students with high quality technical education, theoretical as well as practical knowledge through industrial training and well equipped lab facility. EEE department is honored to have well qualified and experienced teaching faculty with all of them having post-graduate qualification in Electrical Engineering with different specializations. All EEE labs are being controlled by zealous technical team with good industrial exposure. Individual care and attention is imparted to each student from their first year onwards, where all the necessary equipment and tools are familiarized in a detailed manner. This ensures individual involvement so as to experience the excitement of doing the practical by them. Regular seminars and industrial interaction programmes organized by the department helps the student to have a better idea regarding the modern technological trends and industrial work culture.
Though Engineer graduates are eligible for any sort of technical, management, administrative and public sector jobs, more than that specifically an electrical engineer can seek careers in power generation and supply, manufacturing, construction etc. They design, develop, test and supervise electrical equipment manufacturing. They have also been trained to handle responsibilities like wiring and lighting installations in buildings, automobiles and aircraft. Among the most challenging and in-demand tasks for electronic engineers today include developing construction plans for electrical lighting systems for skyscrapers, designing remote-controlled race cars, building technology for factories like robots that can perform welding etc.What is great about being an electrical engineer is that the training is so extensive that graduates may get a job in many different industries such as construction, communication design and manufacturing. Moreover, electrical engineers may take part in development and research as assistants to scientists and other engineers with an M.Tech degree.

As part of Complete Electrification in Pathanamthitta District, a house was electrified by the students Akash Venugopal, Akshay Nair and Sherin Jose Varghese of EEE Department under the guidance of Mrs. Soumya Cherian, Mr. Aneesh S, Mrs. Sarika E.P and Mrs. Sreelakshmy Nair, Asst. Professors EEE, SNIT. The college was awarded a memento during Complete Electrification Program declared by Honourable Minister of Electricity, Sri.M.M. Mani.
On 7th April 2017, Mr. Anil Kumar, Assistant Engineer, KSEB Adoor, handled a session on solar energy schemes, tariff and KSEB new schemes for the consumers and Mr. Aneesh S, Assistant Professor , EEE Department delivered a talk on ‘ Domestic Energy Conservation Tips and Electrical Safety’.
An innovative project titled “Roof Gutter Cleaner” by the students Aswin G Sankar and Kiran R of S7 EEE guided by Asst. Professor Aneesh S, has been selected to the final round of Yuva Mastermind Project Competition.
The following projects received a funding of Rs. 50,000 from the Institute of Land and Disaster Management(ILDM), Trivandrum from Revenue Minister, Sri E.Chandrashekaran :
Aswin G Sankar, student S7 EEE attended Entreprenia’16, a National level Entrepreneurship summit conducted by IEDC.
The project titled Hydro Rescue System by the students Akhil S Pradeep, Aswin G Sankar and Naveen Udayakumar guided by Asst. Professor Hanna G. Elizabeth was presented at Yuva Mastermind Project competition 2016 held at Thrissur.
Arun T Nair of S1 EEE attended a two day national workshop on IPR and Patent Drafting organized by Amal Jyothi College of Engineering on 22nd and 23rd September 2017.
EEE Department organized National Energy Auditing Competition in association with Energy Conservation Society, Kerala Chapter.
On 8th April 2017, Electrical association ‘ELEGENDS’ in collaboration with Kodumon Grama Panchayath conducted an energy conservation awareness program. In this program group of ten students and staff members of EEE Department visited nearly 100 houses in Aikkadu and conducted a walk-through energy audit and recommended modifications as per the requirements.
The budding Engineers of our Department experience practical realization of their theoretical concepts by acquiring practical experience in the following Workshops and Laboratories of the Department.
